Answering a post

I searched help but could not find how to get that dotted line box of someone else's answer and then give my answer under it. Thanks.

RE: What do you think...dare I ask???

Sea Dog,
Money has nothing to do with it, if you don't show people that they are being rude than they will continue to do so and maybe meet someone that's not as nice as me.

RE: So what's it going to cost me?

I would pay $15-$20 if by the highway. And to Sea Dog, not everyone has a 250k pusher.

RE: Airplane camper?

I did see once on television about a guy that took the body of a 707 jet and made a motor home out of it. Was very nice.

RE: What do you think...dare I ask???

I have read a lot of posts that talk about how rude it is to cut through someone's campsite, this is the same thing, without permission they are coming on my property, rude to say the least, just ask first and don't be surprised if I say no. I had a similar experience, woke up one morning, walking through the camper and standing against my kitchen window is a women who was tenting next to me plugging in her cell phone charger. Let her know this is not how we behave in cg's.

It's Official

This is for anyone living on Long Island. I just read in today's paper that the Cross Bronx Expressway has the worst bottleneck in the United States. Not surprising to anyone that has to drive this route on and off Long Island. This is one of the worst roads I have ever driven on, but you don't have much choice when you want to leave LI. There is always the Brooklyn Queens Expressway which IMO is just as bad. All you fellow RV travelers in other states have it so nice to just get on a highway and go. No bridges no tunnels, I guess that's the price we pay for living on an Island.
I blame the politicians and state officials, every time they talk about a bridge to Connecticut, it gets shot down for what ever reason. Yet our taxes are one of the highest in the country and we have some of the highest tolls and we get nothing in return. With the amount of money that is supposed to go to highways we should have the best roads not the worst.
I love to travel, but before every trip I cringe when I know I have to travel on these roads, just so sick of my MH getting shook up to pieces on these roads. Can't wait to someday retire and leave this island. Don't get me wrong I do love living here, was born and raised here, but its getting harder and harder to stay, sorry for the rant, just had to vent a little.

RE: Oil Change Myth?

ron.dittmer,
Been doing this for over 10 years and never had an engine problem, probably had 8 or 9 cars and trucks in that time frame. I will stick to what I know works. Also spoke to a Mobil rep once and he said on the QT you could go 50,000 miles. Also saves me alot of money and I am conserving oil.

RE: Oil Change Myth?

Back in the late 70's or early 80's Mobil did a test of their synthetic oil on NY taxi cabs. They drove the cars for 100,000 miles without a oil change, just changed the filter every 3,000 miles. They took the engines apart and found virtually no ware at all. They advertised Mobil 1 as the 100,000 mile oil.
The ad did backfire on them, when people were driving their cars with Mobil 1 and not changing the filter. There were some lawsuits and Mobil pulled the ad. I have Mobil one in all of my vehicles except my MH. I change the filter every 3,000 miles and leave the oil in for 10,000-20,000 miles with no problems and all are well over 100,000 miles.

Awning arms

Does anyone camp with the awning arms on the ground instead of on the camper. When I camped with my TT I always put the Awning arms down on the ground. No more hitting your head walking down the side. I think they are designed for this, but I never see anyone doing it. When I put them on the ground I do tie them down. I haven't done it yet with the MH, just seems more practical.

Another use of my MH

Had a big thunderstorm last night, lots of lightning. We lost power so I called power company and recording said no estimate of when power will be back on. That usually means all night, so we all went into MH, started up generator, turned on ac and television. It was like camping again, a fun evening.

RE: Bug Repellent? What is everyone using?

As far as mosquitoes we use a fan when sitting out side. Direct the fan to where you don't want them. Mosquitoes will not fly in a strong breeze.

RE: Main door assist/recommendations

I don't know if this will help, when I installed the two springs for the screen door it really helped that problem. It works so good when the screen door is locked on to the door, it will close itself.

RE: "Hot" power cord

There is another cause and that is the campground wiring. I have stayed in CGs that have 120v when you first plug in but turn on the AC and it drops to 104 volts. Wire to CG outlet is not large enough to carry current long distances. As voltage drops amps go up which will heat up the plug. Most campers aren't aware of this because they don't have a volt meter in the camper. Now that I can see the voltage drop I check the cord and if it gets hot I turn off AC for a while.
It's like at home when you plug in the camper to the house with a thin extension cord and run AC, the cord gets hot, the thickness of the wire is not sufficient to run the amount of voltage needed.

RE: fridge stopped cooling HELP!!!!

Scottg is wrong and rseymour21 is right. I had same situation, ran fridge off level, and became clogged. Took it out of rv turned it upside down and back a few times and left upside down overnight. Put fridge back in next day and it works perfectly for over a year now.

RE: Dometic frig. not cooling

If the cooling unit is clogged then you need to unclog it so the ammonia will again flow. To do this the fridge must be pulled out of rv and turned upside down. You will hear the liquid ammonia flow through the tubes. Might have to flip it a couple of times to clear the clog. Once the liquid is running freely through the tubes, put it back in the rv and you should be good to go.

RE: Dometic frig. not cooling

Was it ever operating off level. This will clog the cooling unit, and there is a fix for this.

Watkins Glen

We are heading to Watkins Glen Racetrack and camping in the infield July 4th weekend. Just wondering if anyone from this forum is going and if anyone has ever stayed in this infield before. How did you like it, any tips, this will be a fist for us.
